UFC Undisputed Ships 3.5 Million Units

THQ's UFC 2009 Undisputed has shipped more than 3.5 million units to date, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship-licensed title continues to play a major role in the publisher's profitability goals.
THQ's surprise blockbuster UFC 2009 Undisputed has shipped more than 3.5 million units to date, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship-licensed title continues to play a major role in the publisher's profitability goals. The company plans to release UFC Undisputed 2010 this year, and the UFC brand is looking forward to it: "UFC 2009 Undisputed opened the door for us to further share the UFC brand with videogame and fight fans around the world, and we cannot wait to return this spring with the release of UFC Undisputed 2010 on May 25, 2010," says UFC president Dana White. The figure puts the game, which launched in May 2009, in range of the 4 million first-year units predicted by Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, who expects the title's success to evolve into a broader annual franchise for THQ. The new numbers also give the title, which was developed by Yukes and officially launched May 19th 2009, "Platinum Hits" status on Xbox 360 and "Greatest Hits" status on PlayStation 3 in North America. "Reaching ‘Platinum Hits’ and ‘Greatest Hits’ status is an honor that speaks to the strength of our software and the power of the UFC brand," says THQ global brand management VP Brian Coleman.
