Stargate Resistance FPS Servers To Go Offline In January

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has announced that the servers for their online first-person shooter Stargate Resistance will cease operations on January 15, 2011, as the company's license with rights-holder MGM Interactive expires. In a note posted to the game's official web site, Cheyenne further states they are no longer be selling the game to new customers as of November 16. After filing for bankruptcy earlier this year, Cheyenne was forced to cease operations and sell its interest in Resistance to newly formed subsidiary Fresh Start Studios, in order to insulate the game from the company's wider debt problems. Dark Comet Games has been handling the maintenance and operation the game's servers since then, releasing enhancements to the game as recently as July. Cheyenne was formed in 2005 to develop games based on the Stargate film and TV property, but the company's planned Stargate Worlds MMO faced numerous delays and funding issues throughout its development. The company began work on Resistance last year as a stopgap measure to close the funding gap for the MMO, but by the game's early 2010 release the company was reportedly struggling against millions of dollars in debt.
