Publisher Electronic Arts has announced a September 7th, 2008 release date for Will Wright's highly anticipated sim-universe title Spore on PC, Mac, DS and mobile phone, after much speculation and rumor the title would see a delay from its previous March/April target. Janco analyst Mike Hickey predicted the title would see a delay in late January, just prior to EA's Q3 results. EA had previously been firm on a spring release date for the game, first noting in May that it likely would see release between January and June of 2008, and then in August that it was being "squarely targeted at March, April, or May". In its Q3 investor call, EA CEO John Riccitiello would only go so far as to note the game was a fiscal 2009 release (falling anywhere after April of this year), adding that he was confident the game would be released "before the holidays." "It's one of he titles we pay enormous attention to," he concluded, saying he was "very very bullish" on its future prospects. Said Wright in a release, “The wait is almost over. We’re in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can’t wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year.”
