Sony of America representatives are claiming that SOCOM II: U.S. Navy Seals has clocked up a record breaking 22,000 simultaneous players within its first 48 hours on sale in the US. The previous record was held by the first SOCOM game, which managed between 11,00 and 14,500 players at peak times. On a world-wide basis the original game has been supporting between 50,000 and 60,000 players a day, which is still a long way behind PC titles such as Counter-Strike and EverQuest, but it does show an increasing interest in online games by console owners.
