Two announcements today highlighted the ongoing downloadable content showdown between the
Rock Band and
Guitar Hero franchises, with the former getting a suite of Nirvana tracks in the coming days and the latter to see a series of Oasis updates starting next month.
Next week,
Rock Band and
Rock Band 2 players on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will have access to a seven-song Nirvana master recording pack that includes the songs "Breed," "Lounge Act," "On a Plain," "Polly," "Something in the Way," "Stay Away," and "Territorial Pissings.”
Each track will sell for $1.99 (190 Microsoft Points via Xbox Live Marketplace), with the bundle deal available for $10.99 (880 Microsoft Points).
Developer Harmonix points out that with one Nirvana track already included in both
Rock Band and its sequel, this brings the band's total franchise presence up to nine songs.
Activision and developer Neversoft revealed that Oasis' recent album Dig Out Your Soul will be released for the upcoming
Guitar Hero: World Tour some time in 2009.
Leading up to that, however, November 6 will see the release of the Oasis Track Pack for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, making available "Bag it Up," "Waiting for the Rapture," and "The Shock of the Lightning." All three are taken from Dig Out Your Soul.
