North American television channel Spike TV, the self-proclaimed “First Network for Men”, has revealed the winners of its 2005 VGA Video Game Awards, held in Los Angeles and introduced by movie actor Samuel L. Jackson, and for which Capcom's Resident Evil 4 received the Game Of The Year award. The show also featured performances by Missy Elliott, Def Leppard and 50 Cent. Other stars making an appearance included last year’s presenter Snoop Dogg, Carmen Electra, The Rock, Vin Diesel, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Carson Daly. Some eyebrows were raised when the nominees for the awards were first announced in October, when many of the games featured had not been released. However, the jury of more than 200 video game industry journalists appear to have attempted to vote on games they had played, despite the difficulty of including unreleased titles, though an always-sardonic Jack Black, upon receiving his award for Best Performance by a Human – Male, asked: “Who votes on this thing?” and thanked “all the people of the b******* academy over there”, according to a report on consumer game website GameSpot.
