Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 Hits Jackpot In UK Charts

Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is the latest franchise iteration to top the UK charts, becoming the fourth fastest selling Xbox 360 game ever, with Sega Superstars Tennis and Wii Play also entering/re-entering the charts - full countd
Ubisoft’s ever popular Rainbow Six series has once again topped the UK charts, with the Tom Clancy brand notching up its fifth all format number one in the UK (after Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Rainbow Six: Lockdown and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2). The success of Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 comes shortly after Ubisoft’s decision to acquire the Tom Clancy brand outright, for a figure estimated to be around €60 million. The game also topped the individual format charts, with the Xbox 360 version accounting for 77 percent of sales and selling 3.6 times more than the original from December 2006. In so doing it became the fourth fastest selling Xbox 360 game ever in the UK, behind only Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and, by just 1,000 units, Assassin’s Creed. Sales were up almost across the board in the first half of the Easter weekend – generally reckoned to be the second busiest retail period in the UK after the run-up to Christmas. Combined sales of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games were up 60 percent, but there were no other genuine new entries in the top ten. Wii Play did re-appear once more in the top forty, at number seven, as usual signifying increased stock of Wii hardware. A number of Wii format re-entries lower in the charts further underlined the increased availability of the console itself, with Guitar Hero III at number twenty-eight and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz at number thirty-three. Outside of the top ten the Wii version of Sega Superstars Tennis entered the charts at number twelve, although none of the other versions charted in the top forty. The only other genuine new entry of the week was the Wii version of CSI: Hard Evidence at number eighteen. Overall there were eleven Wii titles in the top forty, equaled by eleven for the Nintendo DS. The Xbox 360 had eight titles in the charts, the PlayStation 3 six, the PC two and the PSP and PlayStation 2 one each.
