Project Gotham Racing 4 Wins Kudos In UK Sales Chart

Xbox 360 exclusive Project Gotham Racing 4 has slipped in ahead of FIFA 08 in the UK individual format charts, which are otherwise dominated by the new hardware prices and bundles for the PlayStation 3 and increased stock levels for the Wii.
Microsoft’s Project Gotham Racing 4, the last in the series to be developed by franchise creators Bizarre Creations, has slipped in ahead of FIFA 08 on the PlayStation 2, in the individual format charts in the UK. Although the multiformat FIFA 08 remains at number one in the combined formats charts, Project Gotham Racing 4 recorded a significantly better opening week of sales than launch title Project Gotham Racing 3. Rather than new releases, the rest of the chart is greatly affected by the launch of the new 40GB PlayStation 3 and the price drop for the now discontinued 60GB model – as well as increased availability of Wii hardware. Resistance: Fall of Man was one of the greatest beneficiaries of the PlayStation 3 price cuts, with its rise of seventeen places to number five, augmented by bundled sales. Other bundled titles benefiting from the new promotions include Heavenly Sword (up twenty-nine places to number eleven) and MotorStorm (up eight places to number fifteen). Formula 1: Championship Edition re-enters the charts anew at number twenty-two, while Ridge Racer 7 also reappears at number forty. Also rising by six places this week is Wii Play at number seven. The game’s performance continues to be a reliable indicator of stock levels in the UK, with Chart-Track confirming that Wii stocks have been renewed this week – although providing no public figures. As a result, there are ten Wii titles in the individual formats top forty this week, with Sonic and the Magic Rings re-entering at number thirty. Helped also by a new television advertising campaign Big Brain Academy for Wii (aka Wii Degree) rises eight places to number nine. The charts do feature some genuine new entries, with the PlayStation 3 version of Electronic Arts’ Skate debuting at number twenty-five and the PlayStation 2 version of Vivendi’s Crash of the Titans at number thirty-two. Originally released two weeks ago, movie tie-in Ratatouille makes its first appearance in the individual format charts, following the release of the film in the UK. The Nintendo DS version enters at number twenty-nine, the Wii version at number thirty-four and the PlayStation 2 version at number thirty-five.
