It's been six years since the release of a new game in the
Oddworld franchise, but thanks to UK-based developer Just Add Water, a remake of the EA-published Xbox title
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is coming to PlayStation 3 next year.
Oddworld founders Lorne Lanning and Sherry McKenna are working closely with Just Add Water to create the remake, which will feature remastered dialogue, 720p visuals and PlayStation Move support. Additional bonus materials will be packed in as well, to be announced in the future.
Originally released in 2005,
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is an action adventure which places the player in the role of a bounty hunter named Stranger on a mission to collect moolah (in-game money) to pay for a mysterious life-saving operation.
The remake marks the first time an
Oddworld title has appeared on a PlayStation console since 1998's
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus. It will be sold through the PlayStation Network as a digital download when it comes out next Easter.
Just Add Water's managing director, Stewart Gilray, said: “Since word got out that we’ve been working with Oddworld Inhabitants there have been many rumors circulating about what we’re working on."
"
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is the first project in what we believe will be a long and fruitful relationship. Having the chance to update this great title and release it on PS3 is just a brilliant opportunity, not least for us, but for the fans too.”
Just Add Water specialize in digital downloadable titles, and its staff have produced over 40 games on consoles such as Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable. Their most recent project was the PSN shooter
Gravity Crash.
