[Every other week, we examine the most popular Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at the top titles and developers on the social network to see who's attracting or losing players.
Though Zynga's FarmVille
remains the most popular application on Facebook this week, the farming sim continues to lose monthly active users -- in just the past two weeks, it shed nearly 2 million monthly players and now has a total of 54.9 million gamers. In March, FarmVille
had a record 84 million users.
The studio's Texas Hold'Em Poker
(#2) on the other hand gained 608,555 card players in the last 14 days and has a total of almost 36.7 million users. FrontierVille
, which quickly climbed to #3 in just a few months, is now losing players. The pioneering sim gave up 2.8 million users for a total of 28.2 million.
Zynga's Mafia Wars
(#4) added 824,844 new virtual mobsters to its ranks for a 23.2 million total, and is followed by the developer's Cafe World
(down 2.1 million users for 17.8 million total) at #5 and Treasure Isle
(down 704,251 users for 13.8 million total) at #6.
Digital Chocolate's Millionaire City
, the first non-Zynga title on the top Facebook games chart, continues to grow and has jumped from #12 to #7 in the past month. In the last two weeks, the game attracted 736,399 more users for a total playing population of 12.3 million. If current trends persist, it will soon overtake Treasure Isle
by Electronic Arts/Playfish, with a total of 12.1 million users, dropped down a spot to #8, though it gained 23,907 new players in the period. Popcap's Bejeweled Blitz
(up 110,208 users for 11.7 million total) and Mindjolt Games (down 381,413 users for 11.4 million total) took #9 and #10 respectively.
