With no major new releases to come, the UK sales charts have begun to solidify, with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
remaining at the top of both the individual unit and combined formats charts.
The biggest obstacle to Mario & Sonic
’s victory now is whether limited supplies of Wii hardware will curtail the game’s success – part of which is owed to the title being included in many unofficial retail bundles. Additional stock of the console does appear to have arrived recently in the UK, with the re-appearance of Wii Play
at number eight in the charts a reliable indicator of increasing stock levels.
In the combined sales chart, Call of Duty 4
has moved up one place to number two, with FIFA 08
also moving up one to number three. According to Chart-Track, only 2,500 sales separate the top three titles across all their format versions. This has left previous Christmas number one favorite Need for Speed: ProStreet
down two places at number four, just ahead of the static The Simpsons Game
Although Mario & Sonic
is outselling the next best selling Wii title, Super Mario Galaxy
, by a factor of more than 2:1, all of the seven exclusives in the combined formats top twenty are for either the Wii or Nintendo DS – with Mario & Sonic
itself being the only one not published by Nintendo.
Back in the individual unit charts, Brain Training
(aka Brain Age
) remains at number two, with More Brain Training
(aka Brain Age 2
) moving up one place to number three. Call of Duty 4
on the Xbox 360 actually moves down one place to number four, with Super Mario Galaxy
on the Wii up three places to number five.
