Cross-platform RPG
The Last Remnant was the first experience on Xbox 360 for the title's director, Square Enix's Hiroshi Takai, and his team -- and he says it was "a lot easier" to work with than the PlayStation 3.
It was also Takai's first time working with the Unreal Engine -- "In both cases the experience has been a positive one," he told Official Xbox Magazine UK,
according to consumer site CVG.
"In fact, as we've only just finished work on
Last Remnant, I don't even know what my next project is going to be at Square Enix," Takai adds. "However, I'm very much hoping it'll be for Xbox 360, as it's been a lot easier to work with than PlayStation 3."
Although it's historically enjoyed a very close relationship with the PlayStation brand, Square Enix has shown increasing affinity for Microsoft's console over the past year or so, sending both
Infinite Undiscovery and
Star Ocean the Xbox 360's way, and notably, crossing longstanding platform lines with
Final Fantasy XIII.
In the interview with OXM, Takai suggests that an increased focus on the Xbox 360 is linked to greater appeal among Western audiences, as part of the goal of globalizing traditionally Japanese franchises.
