Activision's Guitar Hero 5 debuted at the number one spot on the weekly UK sales charts, as competing music game The Beatles: Rock Band debuted in the fourth slot, Chart-Track said Monday. The Neversoft-developed Guitar Hero 5 topped the all-platforms UK charts for the week ended September 12. The game debuted last week on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PS2 and Wii. Meanwhile, Electronic Arts' and MTV Games' ultra high-profile music game The Beatles: Rock Band came in at number four in the Fab Four's home country. Apple Corps, the rights-holder to The Beatles' catalog, along with game developer Harmonix, parent MTV, and distributor EA, originally announced the ambitious game in October 2008. The game debuted on Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. Both Guitar Hero 5 and The Beatles: Rock Band are sold as software-only packs, as well as bundled with plastic instrument controllers. Tracking firm Chart-Track said that it's the first time that the Guitar Hero franchise to take a number one placing on the all-platforms chart. In all, there were three new entries on the all-platforms top 10 chart, which lumps together sales of all versions of a given title: Activision's Guitar Hero 5, Codemasters' Colin McRae: Dirt 2, and EA and MTV Games' The Beatles: Rock Band. Batman: Arkham Asylum from Eidos, the leader for the previous two weeks, dropped to number three as sales fell 60 percent week-on-week. UK All-Platforms Top 10 1.
