Ghostbusters: The Video Game sold 1 million units to date in North America since its June 16 release, publisher Atari said this week.
The game received solid reviews across most of the seven platforms on which it launched. One of the major selling points of the video game was that it featured voices of the original Ghostbusters film cast, including Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson.
The original Ghostbusters film released 25 years ago in 1984, yet the property still maintains a sizeable fanbase. Atari chief exec Jim Wilson said in a statement that the fanbase continues to grow.
"Ghostbusters appears to be a strong and relevant movie-based franchise video game independent of a brand-new theatrical release. We look forward to the continued success of the title as interest and acclaim increase across North America," he said.
The announced sales of the game don't include figures from Europe, where
Ghostbusters released on PlayStation 3 through a deal with Sony Europe. The game is coming to Europe on more platforms this fall.
Developers behind different versions of the game include Terminal Reality, Red Fly Studios, and Zen Studios. Threewave developed the multiplayer co-op feature for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.
