Although no official announcement has been forthcoming from Electronic Arts, the producer of the Fight Night series has confirmed that an iteration of the game is being planned for the Wii. The depth and apparent enthusiasm of Electronic Arts’ support for the Wii has already surprised some, with many of the company’s major franchises already on or confirmed for the format, including Need For Speed, Madden NFL, The Sims, Harry Potter, Medal of Honor, The Godfather and Tiger Woods PGA Tour. Although hinted at in previous interviews, a version of Fight Night, which has been used as a prominent demonstration of both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3’s graphical capabilities in the past, has never been specifically referred to until now. Speaking in an interview with boxing website Doghouseboxing.com, series producer Michael Blank was asked whether Electronic Arts was planning a version of the franchise for the Wii. “We’re talking about it right now,” he answered. “We’re contemplating and we definitely feel there are some exciting things we can do with the Fight Night franchise and the Wii.” “When you play Wii Boxing it is a very simple experience and I think that is what they designed it to be just to let you know that you can throw punches”, he added. “With Fight Night we have an amazing simulation of boxing and so we need to take those Wii controls and tailor it to what the Fight Night consumer might want to experience. We are looking at it right now and I am sure you will [see] something some time in the future on the Wii.” Blank did not indicate whether the game would be an adaptation of the existing Fight Night: Round 3 games or an entirely new entry in the franchise, in the manner of SSX Blur. With the game not appearing to be imminent it could also be released as Fight Night: Round 4, which Blank indicated in the same interview would be “within a year from now” on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
