As has seemed inevitable for some weeks now,
FIFA 07 has become the number one selling video game in the UK over the Christmas period. Although the top spot has invariably always gone to an Electronic Arts title, this is the first time in the current generation when the
FIFA soccer series has remained at the top, with the latest
Need For Speed title proving slightly less popular than usual this year.
Although there were no new entries in the top ten there was some notable movement, with THQ’s
WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 moving up four places to number three and Microsoft’s
Gears of War up one place to number seven. Lower down, family movie tie-ins
Happy Feet,
Lego Star Wars II and
Cars also all enjoyed a small boost in sales.
The only new entries in the top forty were also movie licenses, with Dreamworks’
Flushed Away debuting at number twenty-six, DVD release tie-in
Superman Returns at number thirty-six and
Eragon at number thirty-seven.
The highest ranked Wii game of the week was
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess at number twelve, with
Brain Training (aka
Brain Age) the highest Nintendo DS exclusive at number eleven.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories was the highest ranked PSP exclusive at number thirteen, with
Football Manager 2007 at number nineteen the best selling PC exclusive of the week.
