Denied the number one spot by Halo 3 last week, Electronic Arts’ high profile soccer game FIFA 08 has hit the number one spot in both the multiformat and individual format charts in the UK, as Microsoft’s hit Xbox 360 exclusive sees sales drop by 79 percent. The relative success of each version of FIFA 08 has not altered from last week. Indeed the entire top six is identical except for Halo 3 and the PlayStation 2 version swapping places at the top. As such, FIFA 08 was also number one in the individual PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP and Wii charts. The game’s success is hardly a surprise though, after also having claimed the number one spot during week forty in both 2005 and 2006. With no new entries in the top ten, the fastest mover is THQ’s street racing title Juiced 2, with the PlayStation 2 version rising twelve places to number seven. In doing so, it overtakes the Xbox 360 version, which had debuted higher last week, but this week rises only four places to number ten. The highest new entry of the week is PSP title Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions at number thirty-five. It is the only PSP game in the top forty apart from FIFA 08, just weeks after the release of the new PSP Slim and Lite hardware. With Resident Evil: Wii Edition re-entering the chart at number thirty-eight, despite stock of Wii hardware again becoming scarce in UK shops, the only other genuine new entry of the week is CSI: Crime Scene Investigation – Hard Evidence on PC at number thirty-nine, the fourth in Ubisoft’s series of television series tie-ins.
