Officials from Ubisoft have announced that forthcoming first person shoot ‘em-up Far Cry 2 is being developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as for the PC. The console versions will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal for release this fiscal year. The game had previously been announced only for the PC and was due to be released in early 2007. However, Ubisoft recently revealed that the game, along with Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway and Tom Clancy’s EndWar, had been delayed into the company’s next financial year, beginning April 1st 2008. The original Far Cry was initially released only as PC title, from German developer Crytek. The developer was not involved in any of the subsequent console ports or spin-offs and has since partnered with Electronic Arts for the PC exclusive Crysis. Relatively little has been detailed about Far Cry 2 thus far, although it is known to feature an African setting rather than the tropical island location of the first game. Original lead character Jack Carver is also not scheduled to return, with the game featuring more realistic gameplay that eschews the first title’s mutant powers and enemies.
