Square Enix's DS title
Dragon Quest IX sold 3,925,000 units between its July launch and September -- making it the calendar quarter's top-selling title despite launching only in Japan. So says a new report that integrates metrics from the U.S.'s NPD group, the UK's GfK Chart-Track, and Japan's Enterbrain.
The success of
DQIX played a major role in making Japan the only region among the world's three major video game markets -- which also include the U.S. and the UK -- to
show unit sales growth over the quarter.
Wii Sports Resort was the quarter's second best-selling title. It launched late in June in Japan and late in July in the U.S. and the UK, and has sold a total 3,014,000 units across all three markets, although the U.S. release has thus far seen nearly twice as many units sold as in Japan.
