Despite the game not being released in the US until tomorrow, pirated copies of
Doom 3 have already found their way onto the Internet, presumably via code that has already been sent to retail in advance of the official launch.
Developer id Software is expected to lose between $15 million and $20 million via piracy of the game, with the staggered world-wide release date – Europe is not expected to get the game until August 13 – adding to demand for illegal copies.
At one point on Sunday, more than 50,000 copies of the game, which weighs in at more than 1.5Gb, were apparently being downloaded.
