Devil May Cry Shipments Hit 10 Million Units

Capcom says the Devil May Cry action game series has now shipped 10 million copies worldwide, while sales of Devil May Cry 4 alone reach 2.2 million units.
Capcom has announced that the Devil May Cry series has officially shipped 10 million copies worldwide. The most recent Devil May Cry 4 sold a total of 2.2 million copies across all platforms -– a record for the series. Thus far, no additional new entries in the franchise have been announced. The series has also been part of Capcom’s "Single Contents Multiple Usage" strategy, which has seen a range of merchandise created including comics, novels, action figures and anime series. The news follows a string of recent positive results for Capcom, with shipments of this year’s Street Fighter IV reaching 2 million units worldwide and Resident Evil 4 already at 4 million units. The first game in the series was released in 2001 on the PlayStation 2, with two sequels and a special edition also appearing on the platform. A fourth game was released jointly on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC last year. The first game was famously inspired by a combat bug in the original Onimusha and originally intended to be Resident Evil 4. The series has gone on to gain considerable critical acclaim for its fast paced mix of melee and ranged combat.
