Publisher 2K Games has announced that Dark Sector
developer Digital Extremes is the 'mystery' fourth developer chosen to help optimize the forthcoming PlayStation 3 version of BioShock
alongside 2K Marin, 2K Boston, and 2K Australia.
In June, 2K Marin executive producer Alyssa Finley revealed that an unnamed studio
would be assisting the three 2K studios with the port.
Long rumored and finally officially announced
in May, the PS3 version of the game promises "new features and content" not seen in the Xbox 360 and PC original, due for an October 2008 release.
Digital Extremes has a long history partnering with Epic to co-develop Unreal
titles, including the PC original and a number of subsequent Unreal Tournament
iterations. Dark Sector was released
in April, one of the highest profile titles in D3Publisher's lineup.
Digital Extremes founder James Schmalz said in a statement, "When 2K approached us to assist with development on BioShock
for the PlayStation 3 system, it was a no-brainer. You really can't ask for a more exciting, technically impressive world to work in than Rapture, and the incredible knowledge and talent between the 2K studios and our team at Digital Extremes is unprecedented. The collaboration on this project will make the PlayStation 3 system sing with Big Daddy goodness and Little Sister 'thank you's'."
