the weblog of staffer Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb, Microsoft has announced the top ten Xbox 360 games and full version Xbox Live Arcade titles currently being played over Xbox Live for the week of October 2, 2006, as well as the top games for the the original Xbox being played over (or while connected to) the online service.
Activision and Infinity Ward's World War II first-person shooter
Call of Duty 2 again ranked on top of the list of Xbox 360 titles being played over Xbox Live, followed by THQ's GTA-inspired
Saints Row and EA's venerable
Madden NFL 07. Ubisoft's
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter ranked fourth on the chart, while Atari's Eden-developed
Test Drive Unlimited and the recently released
Doom ranked fifth and sixth respectively.
Capcom's zombie-filled action title
Dead Rising was the seventh most played Xbox 360 title being played over Xbox Live for the week, followed by Bethesda and 2K Game's
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, despite both being a single player only titles. EA and Digital Illusions' next-generation port of
Battlefield 2:Modern Combat ranked as the ninth most played title over the online service for the week, while the recently released demo for Sega's upcoming
Sonic the Hedgehog rounded out the list in tenth.
id Software's
Doom was the most played Xbox Live Arcade title for the week, followed by a pair of card games with
Texas Hold 'em and
UNO.
Hexic HD ranked fourth on the chart, while
TotemBall which relies heavily on Microsoft's recently shipped Vision web camera, was the fifth most played arcade title over the online service for the week. The manic shooter
Geometry Wars Evolved was the sixth most played arcade title for the period, followed by Capcom's
Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting and arcade staple
Pac-Man. The list was capped off by
Marble Blast Ultra and
Bankshot Billiards 2 in the final two positions.
Looking to the original Xbox,
Halo 2 remained as the most played game over Xbox Live for the week. Ranking second on the Xbox chart was
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, followed by EA's
Madden NFL 07. The Xbox port of
Counter-Strike ranked fourth on the list, while Konami's
Pro Evolution Soccer 5 and Ubisoft's
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory took the fifth and sixth positions on the chart.
Another Ubisoft release,
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow, ranked seventh on the chart for the week, followed by LucasArts'
Star Wars Battlefront II and Microsoft's popular racing title
Forza Motorsport. The list of original Xbox titles being played over the online service was rounded out by Ubisoft's
Rainbow Six 3 in tenth.
