Call Of Duty 4 Named Best Selling Game Of 2007

Activision has claimed that Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the number one selling title of 2007. Combined global sales for the multiformat title is put at 7 million units, using a combination of NPD Group, Chart-Track and The GfK Group data.
Officials from Activision have claimed that Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the number one selling title of 2007. Combined global sales for the multiformat title is put at 7 million units, using a combination of NPD Group, Chart-Track and The GfK Group data. Global sales for games titles are only infrequently revealed, in part due to most European research companies refusing to release the data publically. In this case The NPD Group has provided data from North America, Chart-Track from the UK and The GfK Group from selected countries in Europe and Australasia. Data from Media Create or Enterbrain does not appear to have been included, although both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game did enter the Japanese top thirty – despite first person shoot ‘em-ups traditionally proving to be one of the least popular genres in Japan. Although it is not clear whether the Xbox 360 version of the game was the overall best selling single format title worldwide it has regularly topped the charts in the West, with the game, which has also been critically acclaimed, becoming the best selling title during December in the U.S. and the most popular title on Xbox Live. "We're very excited about this achievement especially given so many competitive titles this year," said Will Kassoy, senior vice president of global brand management at Activision. "Consumer and critics agree that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the best games ever created and further establishes Call of Duty as one of the premier brands in the industry. This ground-breaking game and franchise continue to establish new standards by which all other action games will be judged," he added.
