A year and a half after its initial release in Europe
Brain Training (aka
Brain Age) has topped the UK sales chart, with a 32 percent increase in sales from the previous week amidst continued high profile marketing for all Nintendo’s major casual-friendly titles.
Chart-Track estimates that 27 percent of Nintendo DS owners now own a copy of the game, which continues to perform slightly better than the newer
More Brain Training (aka
Brain Age 2), this week at number three.
Taking second place in the individual format chart this week is
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games on the Wii. Published by Sega in the West, the game has overtaken sales of
Super Mario Galaxy this week, which falls two places to number five. In a good week for the company, Nintendo also have another exclusive in the top ten, with
Big Brain Training for Wii (aka
Wii Degree) up eight places to number eight.
The number one title in the combined format charts is
Need for Speed: ProStreet, a position which every game in the past four years has maintained to become the Christmas number one. In the individual format charts, only the PlayStation 2 version of the game has seen any positive movement, up three places to number seven. The Xbox 360 version remains at number eleven, while the PlayStation 3 version has dropped one place to number twenty.
Other major Electronic Arts releases have also seen movement up the charts, with overall sales of
The Simpsons Game up 27 percent, with the PlayStation 2 version up three places to number ten and the Nintendo DS version up thirteen places to number fourteen.
FIFA 08 saw a 38 percent rise in sales across its seven formats, with the PlayStation 2 version up seven places to number eighteen, the Xbox 360 version re-entering at number thirty-nine and the PSP version re-entering at number forty.
In the second week of its release Nintendo’s
Sight Training appears at number nineteen in the charts, also in its second week but making its first appearance in the top forty is
Mario Party DS at number thirty-five. Ultimately the only genuine new entry of the week was Capcom’s
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles on Wii at number thirty, published in the UK by Nintendo themselves.
