BioShock 2 has been officially dated for February 9, 2010, says Take-Two, who ended speculation on the title's release date, following the title's shift out of the 2009 holiday season.
The highly-anticipated sequel had been originally slated for a November 3 release in North America, but the publisher
said earlier this summer it needed to move
BioShock 2 into fiscal 2010, due to the need for additional development time.
Take-Two's fiscal 2010 begins November 1, but analysts speculated the game would likely bypass the crowded holiday release season to launch in early calendar 2009,
strengthening the publisher's lineup for next year. Today marks the first indication from Take-Two of an official date since the delay.
BioShock 2 will return players to the ruins of Rapture, the failed underwater utopia established by its widely-acclaimed predecessor.
Unlike the first game, creator Ken Levine
has said he "makes no claim to anything on
BioShock 2", and that it will reflect the culture of 2K Marin, primary developer on the title.
