Ubisoft's cult classic,
Beyond Good & Evil, will enjoy an HD re-release next year. Available for XBLA and PSN, the game will feature 1080p visuals with enhanced character models, new textures and a re-mastered soundtrack.
Achievements or Trophies (depending on platform) and online leaderboards will also feature, in order to bring the game in line with contemporary platform releases.
Originally released for PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox in 2003,
Beyond Good & Evil has remained an important reference point in the study of game design, despite not being a major commercial success.
In the action adventure game, conceived by
Rayman creator Michael Ancel, players take the role of Jade, a 20-year-old freelance photographer who works to save her home, the island city of Hillys, from an alien invasion.
Critics have long praised the game for its unique atmosphere, and distinguished execution.
Earlier this year,
Ancel confirmed that a sequel, which has been canceled numerous times, is still in production by a small team at Ubisoft, although no further details have been released.
Publisher Ubisoft is yet to announce price or a specific release date for
Beyond Good & Evil HD.
