After two weeks on top, Nintendo's Wii MotionPlus-enabled Wii Sports Resort dropped to the number two spot in the UK for the week ended August 8, as Codemasters' Ashes Cricket 2009 stole the top slot on the all-platform sales roster, UK tracking firm Chart-Track said Monday. Chart-Track said Codemasters is the first UK-based game publisher to have a weekly number one game on the all-platforms sales charts since week six in 2007, when Eidos hit number one with Battlestations Midway. Codemasters last had a weekly number one four years ago with another cricket game, Brian Lara International Cricket 2005. Chart-Track attributed Ashes Cricket 2009's sales to an aggressive marketing campaign that led the game to outsell Brian Lara 2005 three to one. Wii Sports Resort sales dropped 49 percent from the prior week, but still managed to easily grab second place. Wii Fit was a distant third. Falling out of the top 10 from last week on the all-platforms chart -- which includes unit sales of all versions of a given title -- was Activision's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, THQ's UFC 2009: Undisputed, and EA's EA Sports Active.
