Days after releasing the hit iOS game Angry Birds on Android devices, developer Rovio said 2 million Android users have downloaded the game, on top of millions of purchasers on Apple's App Store. Angry Birds was released on the independent Android app store GetJar this past Friday, and by Sunday the company's official Twitter page showed the update, "Another day, another million. Passed 2 million downloads on Android." The game, which places birds with varying abilities in slingshots to knock down structures protecting antagonistic pigs, was originally released on the App Store in December 2009. By August, Rovio said the game sold 6.5 million units on the App Store, while the free trial version was downloaded 11 million times. The iOS version of the game currently costs 99 cents. The Android version, which Rovio said achieved 1 million downloads in its first day, is ad-supported and free to download. Rovio said via Twitter that "paid apps have not done very well on Android," but the company also tweeted that the Android version's next update will introduce a "paid ad-free version." Angry Birds has also been released for the Nokia N900 handset via the Ovi Store, and in April, Rovio released Angry Birds HD for iPad. The game also arrived on the Palm Pre's webOS platform in August.
