Top-Grossing iTunes Apps: Call of Duty, Osmos Climb Post-Holiday Charts

Apple's latest U.S. App Store game charts by revenue see Call of Duty: Zombies and Infinity Blade leading iPhone sales, while Osmos and Wheel of Fortune emerge as top sellers on the iPad.
Every week, sister iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad site FingerGaming rounds up the top-grossing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store, and this chart is now available on Gamasutra. This week's U.S. revenue charts see Call of Duty: Zombies and Infinity Blade leading iPhone and iPod Touch sales, while Osmos and Wheel of Fortune emerge as top sellers on the iPad. These charts allow end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 sales chart, which is dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies. Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings. This week's top-grossing iPhone and iPod Touch titles are: 1. Angry Birds ($0.99) 2. Call of Duty: Zombies ($4.99) 3. Infinity Blade ($5.99) 4. Fruit Ninja ($0.99) 5. Plants vs. Zombies ($4.99) 6. Cut the Rope ($0.99) 7. Tap Zoo (Free) 8. The Sims 3 ($6.99) 9. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit ($4.99) 10. Zombie Farm (Free) Activision's Call of Duty: Zombies sees a sales boost in the wake of the holiday season, as new iPhone and iPod Touch owners flock to many popular entries in the App Store's back catalog. The Sims 3 also returns to the charts after a long absence this week, finishing ahead of EA's Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit at ninth place. Angry Birds, Infinity Blade, Fruit Ninja, and other chart mainstays remain as popular as ever in the first few days of the new year, while newcomers Secret of Mana and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 disappear from the top ten after recent promising debuts. Here are this week’s top-grossing iPad applications: 1. Angry Birds HD ($4.99) 2. Smurfs' Village (Free) 3. Osmos for iPad ($4.99) 4. Scrabble for iPad ($9.99) 5. Wheel of Fortune HD ($6.99) 6. Monopoly for iPad ($9.99) 7. World of Goo ($9.99) 8. Plants vs. Zombies HD ($9.99) 9. Bakery Story (Free) 10. Cut the Rope HD ($1.99) Hemisphere Games' Osmos for iPad rapidly scales the charts after recently being named as Apple's iPad Game of the Year, landing behind reigning chart leaders Angry Birds HD and Smurfs' Village. 2D Boy's World of Goo falls to seventh place after debuting at the top of the charts last month, as Scrabble for iPad, Wheel of Fortune HD, and Monopoly for iPad remain popular picks among App Store shoppers.
