iPhone application developer People Operating Technology has released
Wildfire Fighter, an educational action game featuring the forest fire awareness icon Smokey the Bear.
In
Wildfire Fighter, players control the Bell 205 Helitanker, a helicopter equipped with a water-filled belly tank. Players must draw lines on the iPhone's touch screen to navigate the skies above a burning wooded area and extinguish fires while avoiding collisions and harsh winds.
Wildfire Fighter features a donated media placement of Smokey the Bear's likeness and famous slogan, "Only You Can Prevent Wildfires." The app also includes a link to Smokey's official mobile website, to further promote wildfire awareness.
"We're very proud to have developed a game that is not only a lot of fun but also generates awareness to a persistent environmental issue," said Jason Petralia, CEO of People Operating Technology, "We want to remind users that wildfires are a real problem, and by linking to the Smokey Bear mobile site, we are hoping to encourage safety and responsibility outdoors as well."
