PlayRaven partners with Improbable for first SpatialOS-powered mobile MMO

Due for a full reveal in 2018, PlayRaven's Project Metro is the first mobile title to make use of Improbable's cloud-computing technology.

PlayRaven has announced that it is partnering with Improbable to use the company's cloud-computing SpatialOS tech in its upcoming mobile MMO title Project Metro.

The Finnish game developer now joins the ranks of companies like Bossa Studios, Jagex, and Klang Games that have signed on to create games powered by SpatialOS, though PlayRaven is notably the first developer to use the tech for a game landing on mobile platforms.

Improbable's SpatialOS technology is a cloud-based platform built to support the creation of large, persistent online worlds. Typically, the tech has attracted the gaze of developers creating ambitious, PC-based online games, but the partnership with PlayRaven could signal more opportunities for mobile developers to benefit from the technology.

Improbable meanwhile is continuing to develop the technology and try and get it in the hands of more game developers. The company raised a total of $502 million in additional funding earlier the year to further develop SpatialOS and has recently expanded its open beta to reach Unreal developers in addition to Unity devs.
