Microsoft will shut down Xbox services on Windows Phone on May 16, 2022.

As reported by Windows Central, the company announced the move via an in-app notification that explained Xbox features will soon be retired on Microsoft's lesser-spotted mobile handsets.

"Starting May 16, 2022, Xbox features will no longer be supported on Windows Phone devices," read the announcement. "As part of this change, earning achievements will be retired on Windows Phone devices. Some games may still be playable on your phone, but progress will not be recorded to your Xbox profile."

The move comes over two years after Microsoft ended official support for Windows Phone with the release of a final security update in January 2020.

Still, anybody still using the handset to collect Xbox achievements now only has a few weeks to sweep up any stragglers before the service is laid to rest.
