iPhone Plants vs. Zombies Earns $1M in First Nine Days

PopCap reports the iPhone version of its popular PC game Plants vs. Zombies sold more than 300,000 units in its first nine days on sale, setting a new record for App Store debuts.
Casual games publisher PopCap reports that the iPhone and iPod Touch version of its popular PC strategy title Plants vs. Zombies has sold more than 300,000 units in its first nine days of availability, setting a new sales record for App Store debuts. Retailing for $2.99, the iPhone version of Plants vs. Zombies has grossed more than $1 million in less than two weeks. After launching worldwide on February 14th, Plants vs. Zombies saw a rapid rise in popularity, and soon topped Apple's paid app charts by sales volume and by revenue. As of this writing, Plants vs. Zombies ranks in at second place in both categories. App Store customer response has been particularly strong, with more than 95 percent of paying customers awarding Plants vs. Zombies a full five-star rating. PopCap also notes that the iPhone and iPod Touch version of its landmark match-three puzzler Bejeweled 2 recently became the first paid application in the iTunes App Store to surpass three million units in sales. Bejeweled 2 joins Plants vs. Zombies in Apple's "top paid apps" and "top grossing" sales charts this week.
