Electronic Arts and casual publisher and developer PopCap Games extended their licensing agreement granting EA Mobile exclusive worldwide mobile publishing rights to Bejeweled and Bejeweled 2 through 2010. Originally developed in 2000 for web and PC gameplay, the match-three puzzler has expanded to video game consoles, mobile phones, PDAs, portable music players, in-flight entertainment systems, and other platforms. PopCap revealed in August 2008 that its Bejeweled titles sold over 25 million units across all formats since 2000. The company added that users have downloaded over 350 million trial editions of Bejeweled and Bejeweled 2. Bejeweled is currently available on wireless carriers in North America, Europe and Asia. According to Nielsen Mobile, Bejeweled was the second best-selling mobile game in North America from 2003 to 2007. "PopCap's Bejeweled has remained a consistent top seller on mobile phones for the past seven years," says EA Mobile SVP and GM Barry Cottle. "The game has millions of fans and a consistently successful track record, and EA Mobile remains committed to continuing to provide the best mobile experience for this favorite gem-swapping game."
