The Game Developers Choice Awards recognizes the best in gaming—in 2022, that includes a new category for games furthering social good.

The Game Developers Conference is proud to announce a brand-new award category for the 22nd annual GDCA: the Social Impact Award. This award recognizes a game that advances equality, justice, intersectionality, and/or sustainability, and works to positively impact lives in a meaningful way.

The Social Impact Award joins a list of several other award categories, each recognizing excellence in the art of making games. Other categories include: Best Audio, Best Debut, Innovation Award, Best Technology, Best Narrative, and more. There's also the Audience Award, which is selected through a public vote from the list of finalist games in every main category.

It all culminates in GDCA's Game of the Year. Winners from recent years include: Hades, Untitled Goose Game, God of War, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The Game Developers Choice Awards takes place Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. It will also be available to watch live on GDC Twitch.
