Yellow Pencils Award Resident Evil 4, Nintendogs

Non-profit organization D&AD (British Design & Art Direction) has announced that two video games were awarded the highly prestigious Yellow Pencil design-related awards at the The D&AD Global Awards 2006, which took place earlier this week. The awards recognize the very best in design, advertising and creative communication around the world, and are judged by the world’s leading creative practitioners. In all, only 54 Yellow Pencils were awarded across all design disciplines - which takes into account art direction, style, and execution across a multitude of different fields. This year marked the first time video games were acknowledged with their own category, with Capcom's Resident Evil 4 for consoles and Nintendo's Nintendogs for handhelds both receiving Yellow Pencils. Two other titles were also nominated for awards - Activision's much-lauded Call of Duty 2 for multiple consoles and Sony Computer Entertainment's also well-regarded God of War for PS2. D&AD organization president Dick Powell commented of the addition to the awards for this year: “The D&AD awards celebrate innovation and creativity across many different media and we are really pleased to now include video games.” Interested parties can visit the official Yellow Pencil awards website for the full list of award nominees and winners, which also include a notable multitude of TV, print, and radio advertisements.
