Following unconfirmed reports earlier this year that Obsidian's Aliens RPG had been canceled, the developer along with publisher Sega said the game is no longer in development. "Rumors have circled around a bit regarding the fate of the Aliens role playing game that Obsidian and Sega had been working on. Unfortunately, it is true that we are no longer working on the game, and we wanted to finally announce that officially to everyone who has been following its development," wrote an administrator on Obsidian's official fan forums. "...[Aliens RPG is no longer a product that is in development." Rumors of the game's demise emerged in February this year, when an online business networking profile for a supposed "Ex-designer for Obsidian Entertainment" listed past work that included the "canceled third-person action Aliens RPG (Xbox 360, PS3, & PC)." Publisher Sega also confirmed, telling consumer site GameSpot, "At this point, Sega has no plans to move forward with the Aliens RPG. The Aliens franchise offers us so much content to choose from that we feel it important to take a step back and carefully consider the type of game we want to release." "We plan to continue working with the Aliens franchise and ask fans to be patient and stay tuned for more information about what Sega has coming out for the Aliens series of games, starting with the upcoming Alien vs. Predator game." Sega announced in December 2006 that it acquired the license to Twentieth Century Fox's Alien franchise. Currently, Rebellion is working on the new Alien vs. Predator game, while Gearbox Software is reportedly continuing work on Aliens: Colonial Marines. Obsidian, also developer of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, is working with Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls house Bethesda on Fallout: New Vegas, as well as the action RPG Alpha Protocol.
