The companies said in a statement that they intend to "bring to market the most fully integrated competitive experience in online console gaming." EA and MLG already have a working relationship as partners on EA Sports' Challenge Series of live North American gaming tournaments. "Online competition and knowing where you stand is what video gaming is all about," argued Matthew Bromberg, president and CEO of MLG, who added that the partnership will contribute to the social aspect of competitive gaming. EA and MLG also hope that the new partnership will afford more marketing opportunities for companies looking for online and live tournament exposure. PlayStation, Best Buy, Ball Park, and Geico have all sponsored EA Sports' Challenge Series. "We've been proud to work with MLG to help usher in a new era of video game competition," said EA Sports president Peter Moore. "Today's announcement reflects the natural evolution of the EA Sports experience..."
