Asian film company Double Edge Entertainment has announced the acquisition of the rights to a film based on SNK Playmore's King Of Fighters game franchise, with Hong Kong director Gordon Chan (Fist Of Legend, Beast Cops) also attached. According to a Variety Asia Online story on the deal, the feature will be produced by Axis Entertainment's Joseph Chou and Tim Kwok of LA's Convergence Entertainment. "Fearless" scripter Chris Chow will be the writer, and Japanese firm Micott & Basara and sales agent Arclight/Easternlight are co-producers. The first game in the King Of Fighters series was released in 1994 for the Neo Geo arcade and home system, and it's gone on to become one of the most well-known 2D (and sometimes 3D) fighting game franchises, with multiple iterations for arcade and home consoles. As for the company financing it, Double Edge Entertainment was founded in 2002 and finances, produces & distributes feature films with offices in Hollywood and Taipei. Double Entertainment shareholders include Taiwan electronics giant BenQ, plus two of Asia’s leading financial venture capital groups at Chinatrust Bank & Taishin Bank.
