Criterion announced version 3.3 of its RenderWare platform, which features a number of new tools for improving the development process for animators and programmers. Version 3.3 includes the following new tools and features:

  • Visualizer, a tool for viewing and manipulation of models, cameras and character animation (skin and bones, morph and dmorph) in real-time on multiple target consoles.

    • Light Mapper, a lightmap solution for generating and optimizing lightmaps, using both point- and area-light sources.

    • Sector Editor, a PVS (Potential Visible Sets) sector editing tool.

    • Rendering effects toolchain integration, which exposes platform-dependent hardware features up the toolchain, from register to modeler, so that hardware features can be controlled by the modeler.

    • A new particle system solution that supports procedural particle effects. RenderWare is available for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, and the PC. Pricing was not announced.
