[Every week, Gamasutra sums up sister iPhone site FingerGaming's top news and reviews for Apple's nascent -- and increasingly exciting -- portable games platform, as written by editor Matt Burris.] This week's notable items in the iPhone gaming space include a preview of Qix-clone Bix, the iPhone possibly threatening Sony and Nintendo's handhelds, and Freeverse's Mac-to-iPhone port Burning Monkey Casino. Here are the top stories: First Look: Bix "Developed by Padadaz, Bix is a clone of the classic arcade game Qix. Bix on the iPhone/iPod Touch is a quick pick-up-and-play puzzle game that has you creating blocks that fill up, and the object of the game is to fill up 75% of the screen to advance to the next level." WSJ: iPhone Threat to Sony, Nintendo "The Wall Street Journal joins in on the coverage of gaming on the iPhone and iPod Touch and what it means to the mobile gaming stalwarts, Nintendo and Sony, with their DS and PSP respectively... I think the more people try to say gaming on the iPhone won’t last, the less convinced they are lately." Burning Monkey Casino Announced "Freeverse has a new game coming soon, Burning Monkey Casino, based off the Mac game of the same name. While it is a port, Freeverse assured me that there’s been major changes and tweaks to accomodate the new platform on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Burning Monkey Casino comes with 7 games in one." Movie Challenge, Movie Trivia, in App Store "While most trivia games in the App Store today are basic and uninspiring, Movie Challenge aims to be more engaging by providing multiple categories, multiple game types, accelerometer support, touch screen drag-and-drop support, and powerups." Shooz, Horseshoe Tossing, in App Store "Inhance Digital Corporation has you tossing horseshoes in their new game for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Shooz. Using swipe gestures, the game calculates the speed of your swipe, the angle, and the length for tossing horseshoes. Inhance Digital Corporation is also the developer behind the successful and free Cannon Challenge for Discovery Channel."
