Razer partners with devs to debut $700 game-focused Android phone

Devs should note that the company is talking up the phone's 5.72-inch display, which can reportedly dynamically adjust to hit refresh rates of up to 120 frames per second.

Video game hardware maker Razer held an event in London today to announce its Razer Phone, a $700 Android smartphone marketed as a high-performance mobile device built for games and entertainment.

Devs should note that the company is talking up the phone's 5.72-inch display, pitching it as "the world's first device equipped with a 120Hz UltraMotion screen" that can reportedly dynamically adjust to hit refresh rates of up to 120 frames per second.

Accordingly, the company says it's already partnered with game devs like Tencent (Arena of Valor), Square Enix (Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition) and Bandai Namco (Tekken) to help them optimize their mobile games for the Razer Phone's display.

It's an interesting move for the company, though not unexpected; back in September, Razer chief Min-Liang Tan confirmed that the company intended to release a phone before year's end, suggesting that there's a market of performance enthusiasts who would be interested in a smartphone with beefy specs.

"The mobile market is one of those that we've taken a long-term view to look at," he told CNBC at the time. "We realized that a lot of our gamers are also passionate about the mobile gaming market, so we've done a couple of moves."

The Phone officially launches November 17th; curious devs can find more details on the device and its innards (which include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 8GB RAM) on its website
