The UK government-funded distance learning institution Open University, in collaboration with the Serious Games Institute, will host the serious games-focused Virtual World Conference next week in Linden Lab's virtual world
Second Life.
The 24-hour Virtual World Conference will feature a number of discussions headed by experts and researchers in the fields of industry, academia, and policy development. Sessions will cover topics pertaining to the role virtual worlds play in training, education, health, and the environment.
"This event presents a great opportunity to tackle the big questions about how we use virtual worlds to support learning in varied contexts," said Professor Denise Kirkpatrick, Pro Vice Chancellor of The Open University.
Conference organizers note that the event's virtual presentation addresses global concerns such as rising travel costs and climate change, and is open to attendees from around the world.
The Conference will begin on September 15th at Open University's land in
Second Life. Registration for The Virtual World Conference is available at the event's
official website.
