Officials from Nintendo Australia have announced that the suggested retail price of the Nintendo DS console in Australia will drop to $179.99AU ($139), $20AU less than the current price.
This cut mirrors similar North American price cuts which saw the DS reduced to $129.99
effective August 22, and the Australian he price cut will take effect September 22, the same day Nintendogs
is released in Australia. Many Australian stores have already been discounting the console by around $20AU, and it is expected that a similar cut will be made to the new suggested retail price.
Nintendo’s price cut for its handheld and the release of Nintendogs
appears to be at least partially in response to competition from Sony: the PSP was launched in Australia just two weeks ago, simultaneous with its European release, at a recommended Australian retail price of $399.99AU ($308).
