The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) has invited developers to submit their PC-based serious game titles for consideration in the Fourth Annual I/ITSEC Serious Games Showcase & Challenge. The Serious Games Showcase & Challenge spotlights innovative applications that offer solutions in the fields of service and military training. Previous contest winners have focused on the military procedures of the Canadian army and medical treatment of burn victims. Entries in this year's competition will be judged by a panel of serious games experts in the military, industry, and academic fields. Finalist titles will be invited to display their games at I/ITSEC 2009, which expects over 17,000 attendees this year. Entries will be judged in four areas: Use of Gaming Characteristics, Solution to a Stated Problem; Technical Quality; and Playability/Usability. A single finalist will be picked in each of the contest's three categories (student, government, and business), and each will receive a prize. Entries are required to include an assigned challenge, and must employ a reward system. The contest is open to both independent developers and larger development companies. The I/ITSEC will accept entries until the contest deadline of September 30th, 2009. Finalists will be announced later this year.
