BYOND Strategy Tech Tree #188 & 189

One contest deadline has been extended. Another contest allows entrants to win just by arguing... Oh, and there's niche strategy game tidbits. I think I write about those, right? (Just smile and nod as you skim by. ;))

I had another visit to the ER.  It looks like I'll be having my gall bladder taken out.  The latest ultrasound detected sludge that forms stones and should help explain my random attacks of acute pancreatitis.

On the bright side, I've been playing more current generation games thanks to Steam sales and the Xbox 360 controller purchased with my Imagination Competition winnings.  I bought most of the indie game packs and offered lifetime Fooldom Come subscriptions for any game on my wishlist.  Someone bought me another indie pack and went the extra mile with The Mawsome Pack.  Sweet! =)

This edited version of Along The Tech Tree comes to you from BYOND Strategy, a guild run by unpaid volunteers on a game/development portal and software engine called BYOND.  Tech Tree focuses on recent developer activity.  For play suggestions, visit the guild.

The BYOND Cartridge Classic II has has its deadline extended.  Entrants now have until February 1st to submit their game's 8,192 bytes of source.  Remember that replayability is a factor and good luck!

BYOND Action is raffling off BYOND memberships during their Character Battle's round of four.  To enter, argue which character would win in the comments of the current battle.  The winner will be declared in the next.

Congratulations to Mastermatthew for attaining the number one position in November's AceMedalTable.  This month, Acebloke is thinking of offering timed subscriptions to the top three if he can manage to release or update another game.

Acebloke is currently holding a poll to help figure out whether his military/economic sim, Wargames, should get more political with features like formal declarations and public displays.  The next version might also include world organizations and terrain selection.

Jamckell is looking for people to help test Gadalim Online.  Players will control armies of archers, infantrymen and more in an effort to capture opposing bases.  Compensation shall be offered through in-game currency.

I'm still feeling slightly guilty.  Mecha Destroyer JD will be hosting his RTS Ultra Strife sometime after the 17th.  Attendance at the previous test session was lack luster.  Despite the measures he took to return the game to the guild, I didn't list it until days later when I was writing Tech Tree.  Try to check it out.

I've finally released my Board Game Framework.  It's a library offering multiple game rooms, chat filters, turn phases and more in a flexible and automated interface.  A demo is included.

Hopefully, Flick will be able to use the library to recreate his lost projects.  I'd try it in StarScurrier, but that's been taking long enough without scrapping what I have.  Maybe I'll use it for Genetic Fork.

In the process, I've made some small updates to the included libraries.  Phase handlers can now be cleared and accessed through their phases, People handlers now have a proc to call for disconnected players and handlers from Multiple Game Rooms now have procs to add/remove interfaces.

Fooldom Come: One subscription. Many games.
