Video: How (and when) to not give up on your game

At GDC 2007, Brandon Sheffield walks devs through how and why, if you have a game out, you sell it again -- be that to different platform holders, different regions, or even through a different model.

Normally, when you release a game, you do a bit of PR for it, it sells or it doesn't, and then you move on.

Necrosoft Games works a bit differently -- at GDC 207, studio founder (and occasional Gamasutra contributor) Brandon Sheffield explained his belief that if you have a game out, you can sell it again, be that to different platform holders, different regions, or even through a different model.

He went on to walk through how you can do something similar on your own, citing examples from Necrosoft's own work as well as testimonies from other developers who also sell their games multiple times, through multiple channels.

Beyond that, Sheffield shared advice devs can use to determine if they should move on from a game while it's still in development, and offered some practical alternatives to just pushing through or giving up and starting on something new.

It was a great talk, and if you missed it in person you can now watch it for free over on the official GDC YouTube channel!

About the GDC Vault

In addition to this presentation, the GDC Vault and its new YouTube channel offers numerous other free videos, audio recordings, and slides from many of the recent Game Developers Conference events, and the service offers even more members-only content for GDC Vault subscribers.

Those who purchased All Access passes to recent events like GDC, GDC Europe, and GDC Next already have full access to GDC Vault, and interested parties can apply for the individual subscription via a GDC Vault subscription page. Group subscriptions are also available: game-related schools and development studios who sign up for GDC Vault Studio Subscriptions can receive access for their entire office or company by contacting staff via the GDC Vault group subscription page. Finally, current subscribers with access issues can contact GDC Vault technical support.

Gamasutra and GDC are sibling organizations under parent UBM Americas
