"The future of games is emotions, of course, but it's also meaning. Can we create games that have something to say?"- Veteran game maker David Cage winds up expounding on the future of games as an art form during his GDC Europe talk on virtual acting. In this presentation from GDC Europe 2013, Quantic Dream director David Cage explains the visual art techniques used to create his last tech demo, The Dark Sorcerer, and his most recent title, Beyond: Two Souls. It's an interesting talk that covers his experience doing performance capture, cameras, lighting, tech, directing, and everything involved in capturing, directing and filming virtual actors for next-gen titles. Cage elucidates his points with anecdotes from his own experience as a developer, along with exclusive footage from The Dark Sorcerer demo. The presentation is worth watching for all cinematically-minded game developers, especially those working as narrative designers at large-scale studios, so we've gone ahead and embedded the free video of "The Dark Sorcerer and Beyond: Shooting, Directing and Filming Virtual Actors" above. You can also watch it here on the GDC Vault.
