Obituary: Game developer Stewart Hogarth

Gamasutra has learned that Stew Hogarth, a game designer in Scotland known for making games like I Am Level and Super Dungeon Run, passed away yesterday at the age of 31.

Gamasutra has learned that Stewart Hogarth, a game designer in Scotland known for making games like I Am Level and Super Dungeon Run, passed away yesterday at the age of 34.

Hogarth spent many years making games at Scottish game companies Denki and Chunk before striking out on his own in 2011.

In 2013 he founded his own studio, Smiling Bag Games, and continued to make games independently while battling the encroachment of congenital heart disease.

"Everything from working with him to playing his games was always a pleasure and a learning opportunity. Even with all his problems he was always smiling and always chirpy," said fellow Scotland-based developer Dan Gallagher, who confirmed news of Hogarth's passing to Gamasutra. "There would be a lot more great games in the world if more developers created with the integrity and passion that Stew had."
